Press Release
February 4, 2025
The Government of the Northwest Territories announced mandate highlights today in the first Premier’s Territorial Address.
The Address provided a formal opportunity for the Premier and Ministers to share updates on the GNWT’s progress toward its Mandate, reflect on the previous year, and speak to the government’s vision and priorities for the year ahead. It also provides an opportunity to acknowledge key partners who have played a vital role in this important work. Ministers in attendance were available to speak with members of the media on any portfolio questions.
This annual event is intended to enhance public accountability and transparency, in coordination with the Sessional Statement and Budget Address that will follow later this week.
Moving forward this address will be held prior to the first sitting in each calendar year.
Quote
“While I acknowledge significant work lies ahead, over the past year, our government has worked hard, collaborated with Indigenous governments, engaged with MLAs, and, above all else, listened to Northerners – to lay the foundations needed to advance our commitments in strategic infrastructure and economic growth, affordable housing, access to health care, public safety, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and to provide support for healing.
– R.J Simpson, Premier of the Northwest Territories
