After the success of the 2024 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships, about $37,500 in grants are being made available to indigenous athletes in the Grande Prairie region.
The May hockey tournament had an estimated economic impact on the region of about $2 million. Successful grant writing and fundraising efforts have led to the creation of a legacy fund.
The organizing society believes the funds should be distributed through the Indigenous Sport Council of Alberta (ISCA) which will then distribute it through its grant funding streams.
