FREDERICTON – With today’s signing of 49 writs by the chief electoral officer, the 41st provincial general election officially starts.
The 32-day campaign includes two days of advance voting on Saturday, Oct. 12, and Tuesday, Oct. 15. Election day is Monday, Oct. 21. Polling stations are open on all three days from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
“Starting today, candidates are able to go to our returning offices in the electoral district where they intend to run to submit their nomination papers to the local returning officer,” said chief electoral officer Kim Poffenroth. “Their names will be posted on our website as they file their paperwork.”
With the issue of the writs, voters are also able to vote at any returning office in the province, six days a week, by visiting and requesting a ballot. Voters can apply online to request a vote-by-mail package be sent to them, or they can contact their local returning office. The candidate nomination period is open until Tuesday, Oct. 1, so anyone voting before the ballots have been printed will vote using a write-in ballot.
“With the change in the electoral boundaries for this election, many people will find themselves voting in new ridings and polling divisions in this election,” said Poffenroth. “I invite electors to visit our website and use the Where do I vote? search engine to locate their polling stations and where they are eligible to vote.”
Voter information cards will be sent to people on the voters list starting the week of Oct. 7. Eligible voters who did not receive a card can still vote but should contact Elections New Brunswick to check if they need to be added to the voters list.
Information on the locations of returning offices and advance and ordinary polling stations is available on the Elections New Brunswick website, or by calling 1-888-858-VOTE (8683).
