Aboriginal education forum begins – The Chronicle Journal

November 17, 2015

Former Liberal prime minister Paul Martin is to be among the main speakers addressing a two-day aboriginal forum on educational issues that kicks off today in Thunder Bay.

“This is an historic new point for First Nations in Ontario to truly begin controlling the delivery of education to our people,” Ontario Regional Chief Isadore Day said Monday in a news release.

“We are locking in our commitments to working with the (federal) government in addressing one of our top priorities – the education of our children.”

Martin has long championed initiatives to improve educational opportunities for aboriginal youth.

Other conference speakers are to include Truth and Reconciliation Commissioner Wilton Littlechild and Lakehead University professor Dolores Wawia.
