Press Release
April 3, 2025
Treaty One Territory, Winnipeg – With the upcoming federal election set for April 28, 2025, the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC) is calling on all party leaders and candidates to make First Nations priorities a central part of their platforms. Today, the AMC is proud to share a comprehensive briefing document outlining the key areas requiring immediate federal attention to improve the lives of First Nations citizens in Manitoba and beyond.
The document, titled “Manitoba First Nations Priorities: 2025 Federal Election”, outlines specific calls to action in areas including First Nations governance, housing and infrastructure, clean drinking water, child and family well-being, health and mental health, education, economic development, environmental protection, and the full implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).
“First Nations in Manitoba are facing critical issues that cannot be ignored or sidelined in another election cycle,” said Grand Chief Kyra Wilson. “This document presents a clear and actionable path forward for federal leadership. We are calling on all parties to commit to meaningful partnerships with First Nations governments and to advance policies that reflect our rights, our realities, and our visions for the future.”
The AMC emphasizes that many of these priorities are not new—but rather, longstanding commitments that have yet to be fully implemented. This election presents an opportunity for political leaders to show their willingness to work with First Nations in true partnership.
AMC urges all candidates running in the 2025 federal election to read the document in full and respond publicly on how they intend to address these key issues.
