As the host city for the 2024 Little Native Hockey League (LNHL) Tournament and to celebrate its 50th anniversary, the City of Markham commissioned artist Brandon Jacko to create an artwork for Angus Glen Community Centre.
This location was especially selected because it is the place where the championship games of the four-day LNHL tournament was held on March 14.
Mayor Frank Scarpitti said Markham is honoured to host the tournament and witness the growth of the Little Native Hockey League over the years.
“It started out with just 17 teams and we have the largest ever — 245 teams participating in this year’s tournament with the largest number of girls’ teams,” he noted. The event also helps build on the ongoing commitment to Truth and Reconciliation.
