Press Release
Vancouver, British Columbia, September 25, 2024 — The Conservation Department of the BC Métis Federation (BCMF) wrapped up a busy season of beach clean-ups with a “Sweeping the Shores” event in Surrey on September 14.
Dozens of volunteers braved the rain and wind to clean the shores of Blackie Spit Park, fueled by sustenance from Natalino’s Pizza and the Sunflower Cafe. The volunteers collected and removed garbage and recycling from the shoreline, leaving the area cleaner for all to enjoy.
Since April, the BCMF Conservation team has hosted six “Sweeping the Shores” events:
“We are truly grateful for all of the support we received from our volunteers and sponsors this year,” said Angel Fisher, Director of Conservation. “We are so proud of the positive impact of our collective effort to make a difference for BC’s shorelines, and seeing so many people come out to help keep our beaches clean was truly inspiring. We can’t wait to see all of those friendly faces back for our 2025 season!”
The 2025 beach cleanup dates will be announced in the new year. For more information and to stay in touch, visit CoastalWaterProtectors.ca.
