‘Best guess’ approach to RCMP racial data collection will lead to distortion: prof – The Graphic Leader

When RCMP begin collecting race-based data as part of a pilot project, they will do so based on their officer’s own perception and a “best guess” approach, not by asking people to reveal their cultural identities, which doesn’t sit well with everyone.
“Leaving entirely to officers the evidentiary component of the RCMP’s race-based data study is guaranteed to lead to distortion,” University of Alberta Professor of Criminology and Sociology Temitope Oriola said on Thursday.
