Press Release

March 12, 2021

Appointments and Eligibility Criteria

Today, eligibility has expanded to include all congregate living workers aged 40 or older (previously aged 60 or older). Yesterday, eligibility expanded to include anyone working in an acute care facility, not just those who have direct contact with patients. Age-based eligibility criteria remain the same including individuals aged 80 or older and First Nation people aged 60 or older.

Appointments are currently available for the super sites in Winnipeg, Brandon, Thompson, Selkirk and Morden. Individuals should visit www.gov.mb.ca/covid19/vaccine/eligibility-criteria.html to determine if they are eligible to make an appointment. If eligible, call (toll-free) 1-844-626-8222
(1-844-MAN-VACC). Everyone who calls is screened to ensure they meet current eligibility criteria before booking an appointment.

The Covishield(AstraZeneca) vaccine will be available soon through some medical clinics and pharmacies. Nearly 200 locations throughout the province will receive 18,000 doses of this vaccine, which has its own eligibility criteria for people aged 50 to 64 with other high-risk conditions. Each clinic/pharmacy will only have a small number of doses available. For more information and how to access this vaccine, visit www.gov.mb.ca/covid19/vaccine/eligibility-criteria.html .

Vaccine Administration

To date, 99,842 doses of vaccine have been administered including 68,378 first doses and 31,464 second doses.

This week, Focused Immunization Teams (FITs) provided the first dose of vaccine to eligible residents at more than 70 congregate living facilities. To date, more than 6,900 residents of congregate living facilities have been immunized. Next week, more than 70 additional sites located across the province will be visited by FITs, providing first doses to eligible residents.

The Morden super site, located at the Access Event Centre, will open on March 22.

Pop-up vaccination clinics will begin next week in rural and northern Manitoba communities, for people who meet current provincial eligibility criteria. Appointments are required and can be made through the provincial call centre. The initial two-week schedule is also available at www.manitoba.ca/vaccine and will be regularly updated.

Vaccine Supply and Distribution

To date, a total of 159,220 doses of vaccine have been delivered to Manitoba. This includes:
• 112,320 doses of Pfizer vaccine;
• 28,900 doses of the Moderna vaccine; and
• 18,000 doses of the AstraZeneca/Covishield vaccine

This week, Manitoba expects to receive 20,500 doses of Moderna. Next week, the province expects to receive 14,040 doses of Pfizer.

Additional Information

Manitoba’s daily maximum capacity measures the number of doses the province could give every day, if vaccine supply was not an issue. The provincial target is 20,000 doses per day by April and it is currently 18,973.

All data in this bulletin is current as of March 11, unless noted otherwise.
