Press Release
Chief September 20th, 2024 Ottawa, ON
The Congress of Aboriginal Peoples is pleased to announce that Brendan Moore has been elected the new National Chief of the organization.
National Chief Moore was born to a Mi’kmaq mother, Debbie Harquail, and a Scottish father, Douglas Moore. His Grandfather, Gerald Harquail, was adopted off-reserve when he was a child to avoid being subjected to residential school. This is where his family’s off-reserve story started.
CAP is also excited to announce that Shawna Jean has been elected National Vice-Chief.
Shawna is a First Nation member from the Swan River First Nation, located alongside the Lesser Slave Lake. She was raised most of her life in Kinuso and obtained a bachelor’s degree in education with a distinction in special education.
