Press Release
September 19, 2024
Today is Community Health Representative (CHR) Day in Nunavut. It is a day dedicated to recognizing the vital role CHRs play in promoting health and well-being in Nunavut, especially in our most remote communities.
Today, we honour our CHRs for their tireless dedication to improving the health and well-being of Nunavummiut. CHRs play a pivotal role in healthcare, delivering critical health education, support and services to those who need it.
Their daily efforts help manage chronic conditions, encourage healthy lifestyles, and ensure culturally-sensitive care is accessible. Our CHRs offer a range of services from health education to disease prevention, always ensuring their programs resonate with the Inuit perspective of wellness, integrating body, mind, spirit, and soul.
CHRs enhance the health of Nunavummiut by developing, implementing, and monitoring evidence-based public health programs and initiatives. These programs integrate Inuit societal values and empower Nunavummiut to live healthy lives.
Their work makes a difference. CHRs build trust, foster relationships, and strengthen the health of entire communities. On this day, let’s recognize their invaluable contributions and say thank you for their unwavering commitment to improving our health, community and future.
