Press Release
Feb 25, 2025
This quarter, the CIB has reached 79 investments and over $13.4 billion dollars committed. More than 58 projects that we invested in are now in active progress. Five projects are complete and delivering public good outcomes for Canadians.
Matawa Training and Wellness Centre Retrofit
Green Infrastructure, Indigenous Infrastructure | Thunder Bay, ON
$15M towards an energy retrofit which will improve the efficiency of electrical and mechanical systems at this vibrant community hub. Nine First Nation member communities will benefit from the revitalized building located in Thunder Bay, ON. The Centre will close a gap in local infrastructure, providing a home for education, health, social services and related programming and employing up to 300 local people by 2026. This community space will enable more than 20,000 social, health, and holistic care appointments each year.
South Kaien Logistics Park
Trade & Transportation | Port of Prince Rupert, BC
$60.7M for the first Indigenous-led logistics facility in British Columbia, in partnership with the Metlakatla First Nation (MFN). The CIB’s second investment in the Port of Prince Rupert will see greenfield lands converted into serviced parcels for build-to-suit tenant import facilities. The logistics park will increase trade volumes and expand storage and transit times at the Port, while creating jobs for MFN members and other Indigenous people in the region. Infrastructure investments at the Port support western Canada’s trade corridors and supply chains and help Canadian companies export goods to global markets.
