City looking for local First Nations artists to create big ‘Vancouver’ sign – Vancouver Is Awesome

The sign is expected to be unveiled in the spring of 2026.
After some temporary signs reminding people on Vancouver’s waterfront where they are (and also for selfies), the City of Vancouver is seeking artists who want to create the sign.
Specifically, they’re seeking members of the three local First Nations to apply to create the sign, which will include programmable LED lighting. The sign will be permanently set up in Coal Harbour.
“Artists from the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and səlilwətaɬ Nations are invited to help design integrated artwork for the new sign, which features large letters spelling ‘VANCOUVER,'” reads a new page on the city’s website.
