Claims Period Closed

Press Release

The Claims Period for the First Nations Drinking Water Settlement is now closed.

The Administrator continues to process Individual Damages and Impacted First Nations claims and are making payments to those who are eligible.

Payments for Specified Injuries claims will begin after all Specified Injuries claims have been processed (including any appeals). This is because the compensation amount for each eligible individual depends on the total number of eligible claims received. This can only be determined once the claim period closes, all claims have been adjudicated and the appeal process has been completed.

Once the Administrator determines a claim’s eligibility, they will send a letter by mail to the Claimant explaining the decision and the process for requesting an appeal. If no appeal is requested, compensation will be provided after the appeal period has passed. If an appeal is requested, compensation will be provided after all appeals have been resolved.

In some cases, there may be more time required to process a claim due to incomplete submissions, additional information required, multiple claims submitted for a single individual, or claims submitted on behalf of a minor. Visit the Compensation Process Timeline or more information about the steps involved to process a claim.

Missing information

If you received a letter from the Administrator stating that your claim is missing information, take time to review it carefully. The letter will say exactly what information is missing from your Claim Form and what you need to do to complete your claim.
To check on the status of your claim, please call the Administrator at 1-833-252-4220 .
