Controversial amendments to sustainable jobs bill expected to be removed: sources – iPolitics

A government source told iPolitics that Liberal and NDP members of the natural resources committee helped pass several Tory-proposed amendments in the hopes of expediting the bill’s passage, though neither party has any interest in keeping the adopted changes.

An amendment that environmentalists say would render the government’s proposed legislation on sustainable jobs useless is expected to come off the board at report stage, according to a government source.

Bill C-50 looks to establish a framework that would guide Canada’s economy towards a net-zero future. If passed, the law would create a council, made up of various stakeholders including Indigenous peoples and unionized workers, that is tasked with facilitating that shift. Labour groups have said the bill is critical for workers having a seat at the table during the clean energy transition.
