The latest public accounts suggest Premier Doug Ford presides over a tax-and-spend Progressive Conservative government.
Ford’s Conservatives ran a $5.9 billion deficit — up from the most recent projected shortfall of $2.2-billion — in the last fiscal year as spending ballooned to $186.4 billion.
The Tories spent 9.3 per cent more than the previous year due largely to $6.3 billion for “time-limited COVID-19 investments” and an additional $6.3 billion “for liabilities and contingent liabilities for Treaty rights and Aboriginal rights,” according to public accounts tabled Wednesday.
