Press Release
Regina, SK — On December 17, the First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv) welcomed the holiday season with its 2025 Annual Elders Christmas Dinner, a cherished tradition that brings together Elders, Knowledge Keepers, students, staff, faculty, and families in the spirit of community and gratitude. The day began in a good way with a pipe ceremony, followed by a shared Christmas meal. Throughout the morning, attendees enjoyed prayers and offerings from Elders and Knowledge Keepers, musical performances by Terri-Ann Strongman, and a few songs from the choir from pamināwasowin Child Care Centre, whose songs helped set a warm and festive tone for the celebration.
The gathering offered an opportunity to honour FNUniv Elders and reflect on the importance of intergenerational connection and cultural continuity. A visit from Santa Claus added to the celebration, bringing smiles to children and adults alike, while volunteers from the Regina Police Service assisted in serving the meal. Moments of laughter, storytelling, and togetherness filled the room as the FNUniv community came together to kick off the holiday season.
FNUniv extends its sincerest appreciation to the many partners and supporters who made the annual dinner possible, including Casino Regina, the Regina Campus Student Association, SaskTel, University Relations, Student Success Services, the Regina Campus Social Committee, and kohkom Bea’s Café. Bone & Broth provided this year’s meal, and the event was further supported by generous donations of gifts, desserts, and beverages from FNUniv staff, faculty, and students. Their collective support helped ensure the Annual Elders Christmas Dinner remained a meaningful and memorable celebration for all in attendance.
