Purpose of the Kits and the Giveaway

The purpose of an emergency preparedness kit is to help families following an emergency situation. The kit has 72 hours’ worth of supplies to help with food, water, heat, lighting, and sanitation, along first aid supplies, which are vital in emergency situations especially in isolated locations where an individual may not have access to any basic resources. The kits are best kept in a convenient place at your home, workplace, or in your vehicle, wherever it is most accessible to your household.

Kit Details

These 72-hour emergency preparedness kits are packed to support families of up to four individuals. They will be distributed by the supplier, Total Prepare, from their warehouse to your door.

Supplies included are divided into two easily portable backpacks:

Preparedness Kit: 4 Food bars, and 24 Drinking water pouches (enough food and water to supply each individual for 72 hours), 4 Hooded ponchos, 4 emergency blankets, 4 light sticks, duct tape (10 yards), bath/toiletry packs, 1 toilet paper roll, dust masks, a flashlight, AM/FM radio, an emergency preparedness guidebook, a first aid kit (contents below), whistle, and two

First aid kit includes: bandages (25mm x 76mm, 5cm x 7.5 cm, 3.8cm x 7.6 cm, 9.5mm x 38mm, 4.4cm x 5.1cm, 19mm x 76mm), gauze pads (4” X 4, 3” x 3”), ABD pads (5” x 9”), roller gauze (2”), cotton tip applicators, tape roll, tweezers, cold pack, scissors, tongue depressor, nylon bag, nitrile gloves, and alcohol wipes.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this giveaway, citizens must provide proof of Métis citizenship. Kits are restricted to one per household.

Note: shipping will NOT be possible to PO boxes or rural road addresses as the packages will be large and require signature. If your address is not accessible for delivery, try asking a regional office, a local business, and friends or family who have a non-rural address and would be available for signing if their address could be used as a shipping address instead.

Priority will be given to rural communities in the giveaway. This is to target individuals and families who may live in locations with limited access to emergency services, shelters, or could be affected by long emergency response times. The emergency kit giveaway will be open until March 1st, 2024.
