First Nations designers own the runway – CBC

For the first time, a new collective of First Nations designers took their looks to the runways of Montreal Fashion Week.

The Indigenous Collective was formed earlier this year and consists of seven First Nations designers based in Quebec. They held their first show at Montreal Fashion Week at Palais des Congrès on Sept. 20.

Karoniénhawe Diabo, who is behind She Holds the Sky Designs, dedicated her collection of formal wear with traditional designs to missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, combining hues of red, maroon and black.
