First Nations women roofers help repair damage from Hurricane Melissa – CBC

Summit Sisters, a group of female roofers from across Canada, were in Jamaica this week helping repair roofs and other damage done to housing from a hurricane last year.

Founder Samanntha De Coteau, a Cree woman from Whitefish Lake First Nation in Alberta, now living and working in Ontario, formed the group in 2022 when she needed help with a big job.

The group now has 12 roofers, Indigenous and non-Indigenous. Seven of them volunteered to help in the Jamaica relief efforts this week.
