Press Release
Dominique Rey’s MOTHERGROUND exhibition Featured in Flash Festival
Winnipeg, Manitoba, April 2, 2025: The Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG)-Qaumajuq is proud to partner with Flash Photography Festival on their tenth anniversary, running April 1-30, 2025. The Gallery will present a screening of All the Beauty and the Bloodshed directed by Laura Poitras in Ilipvik Theatre on April 8, and on April 13, we will present an artist tour of MOTHERGROUND with Dominique Rey, whose work is also presented as part of Flash Photography Festival.
Dominique Rey is a Franco-Manitoban artist whose solo show, MOTHERGROUND has been on display at the Gallery since October 2024 and has been extended until June 28, 2025. This deeply personal and intimate exhibition reflects on artistic practice, fertility, and maternity as forms of creative labour through an in-depth exploration of motherhood and how everyday gestures between a mother and child can be radical. The exhibition features large and small-scall photographs, photo collage, human-scale sculpture, and video installation.
The Flash Photography Festival has been running since 2014 where all levels of photographers are welcome to participate in showcasing their photographs in various businesses and galleries across Winnipeg. Their mission is to promote the art of photography by bringing together photographers and businesses in Winnipeg and around Manitoba, educating both photographers and the public in the artform.
Now in its tenth year, the Festival will feature expanded programming, new partners, and featured exhibitions presented by celebrated curators. The 2025 event will see 56 venues throughout the province – for the first time, the event will partner with 13 rural and northern galleries, along with 22 recognized art galleries within the city of Winnipeg, and 20 non-traditional venues. WAG-Qaumajuq is proud to be a partner once again and be a part of Manitoba’s largest celebration of photography.

“I’m honoured to be a part of Flash Photography Festival’s tenth year anniversary. As an artist who works primarily in photography and who teaches photography to emerging artists, I have a deep appreciation of the power of this medium. Not only does it play a pivotal role in representing our world, it also impacts how it is understood – thanks to Flash Photography Festival this conversation will be shared with a large audience across Manitoba.”
