For 50 years, Fort Edmonton has been telling stories — and helping others tell their own.
First conceived as a Canada Centennial reconstruction project in 1967, Fort Edmonton evolved into an interactive experience that immerses visitors into specific eras of Alberta history — with streetscapes for four different eras, and a foundational new Indigenous peoples exhibit.
It’s not a ghost town — although the spirit of Alberta past is present — more like a bustling, working, era-bending community, where real blacksmiths toil over a real forge. It even has the Mellon Farm, a structure original to the park site.
Human animation makes the difference — volunteers whose authentic demeanour power the park over 850 volunteers throughout the year.
