Four Communities Recognized with Community Spirit Award

The 2024 Lieutenant-Governor’s Community Spirit Award honours four outstanding communities that demonstrate exceptional commitment to civic engagement, support for residents and the promotion and preservation of their rich history.

The recipients are:

  • Arisaig, Antigonish County
  • Beechville, Halifax Regional Municipality
  • Isle Madame, Richmond County
  • L’sitkuk (Bear River First Nation).

“I am thrilled to honour communities that have gone above and beyond in promoting positive change and collective growth,” said Lt.-Gov. Arthur J. LeBlanc. “Their dedication is truly inspirational, and I eagerly anticipate presenting these well-deserved awards in the weeks to come.”

The award program is administered by the Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage. Recipients demonstrate community engagement and a forward-thinking approach to community development.

“The community spirit award recognizes the strength and diversity of our vibrant communities and the people who live there,” said Allan MacMaster, Minister of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage. “Congratulations to this year’s four communities for making life better for residents and for sharing your community pride and heritage.”

  • the community spirit award program was established in 2007 by then lieutenant-governor Mayann Francis
  • 57 communities have received the award since 2008
  • community ceremonies for 2024 award recipients will take place later this year
