Government of Canada announces appointments to the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Governing Council

Today, the Honourable Mark Holland, Minister of Health, announced three new appointments as members to the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Governing Council.

  • Dr. Christine Fahim is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. Additionally, Dr. Fahim is an implementation scientist and leads the Team for Implementation, Evaluation and Sustainability at the Knowledge Translation Program, St. Michael’s Hospital.
  • Dr. Bernard Le Foll is a senior scientist specializing in drug addiction within the Institute for Mental Health Policy Research at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). Additionally, Dr. Le Foll is chair of addiction psychiatry within the Department of Psychiatry of University of Toronto and a professor in the departments of Family and Community Medicine, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Psychiatry, Institute of Medical Sciences and the Dalla Lana School of Public Health. He is also Vice-President Research and Academics and Chief Scientific Officer of the Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care. Dr. Le Foll is a francophone.
  • Dr. Caroline Tait is a professor at the University of Calgary within the faculty of Social Work and Cumming School of Medicine. Dr. Tait is a member of the Métis Nation of Saskatchewan and has conducted community-based research in partnership with First Nations and Métis communities and organizations for over 25 years.

Established in 2000, the CIHR is an independent agency accountable to Parliament through the Minister of Health. CIHR collaborates with partners and researchers to support new scientific knowledge and enables its translation into improved health, more effective health services and products, and a strengthened Canadian health care system.
