A mandatory Grade 11 Indigenous English course, which debuted last fall in some Thames Valley high schools, will be offered in twice the number of schools this fall.
The course, contemporary First Nations, Métis, and Inuit voices, is taught in nine secondary schools and will be offered in nine more this fall before going system-wide by the fall of 2026.
“I’m so proud of the fact you actually have an Indigenous course because now . . . the world gets to see who we are,” Indigenous trustee Gina McGahey said to educators following an update this week on Indigenous education.
