Kenora, ON – Grand Council Treaty #3 is proud to announce the launch of four Emergency Accessibility vehicles, which will provide the First Nation citizens of Treaty #3 with accessible transportation options.
Numerous environmental and health emergencies have highlighted a shortage of accessible transportation for vulnerable populations in community during evacuations, or in accessing urgent care. In response, Grand Council Treaty #3’s Health Transformation, and Territorial Planning Unit, introduced resolution #CA-22-27 to address accessibility gaps and barriers that vulnerable community members experienced.
The Health Emergency Vehicles will be available in each of the Four Directions, as per the 4-directional governance model, and will support First Nations and regional partners to provide sustainable, safe, and consistent transportation. Each vehicle is equipped to be wheelchair accessible with the goal of eliminating transportation challenges experienced by members with mobility impairments.
With guidance from the Social Chief’s Committee, Grand Council Treaty #3 has identified the top three priorities for the Emergency Accessibility Vehicle Program:
