Position Summary
The Human Resources Officer will play a key role in supporting the organization’s human resources functions by contributing to the development and implementation of human resources strategies and initiatives. The role places a strong emphasis on recruitment and administrative support to maintain efficient operations within the department. A strong understanding of human resources standards, commitment to confidentiality, and problem-solving skills are essential for this role.
Key Responsibilities
Records & Compliance
- Maintain accurate files, records, and documentation.
- Ensure the integrity and confidentiality of all human resources records.
- Assist with periodic audits of human resources files to verify completeness and proper filing of required documents.
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Assist in drafting job descriptions, posting job advertisements, screening resumes, conducting interviews, and coordinating candidate selection in alignment with organizational needs.
- Collaborate with hiring managers to understand staffing needs, recommend recruitment strategies, and ensure job requirements are accurately reflected in job postings.
- Ensure recruitment activities are conducted in accordance with applicable labour laws, industry standards, and the organization’s policies to provide a fair and inclusive process for all candidates.
- Organize and conduct new hire orientations, provide essential information regarding benefits, company policies, and job expectations.
Employee Relations & Support
- Respond to common inquiries from applicants and employees regarding standard policies, benefits, and leave management.
- Escalate complex inquiries to the Human Resources Manager for further guidance.
- Foster a positive work environment by promoting effective employee relations and communication.
HR Operations & Reporting
- Plan and execute human resources related events, such as organization-wide meetings and employee training sessions.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements within human resources systems, ensuring compliance with best practices.
- Prepare and generate reports, metrics, and analytics for management review.
- Provide administrative support for performance management as well as training and development initiatives.
Other
- Participate in the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) to help ensure a safe and healthy work environment by collaborating on safety initiatives, addressing workplace hazards, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
- May be requested to undertake other related duties as required.
- Handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
Qualifications
Education
- The position requires a minimum 2-Year College Diploma in Human Resources or a related field. While a post-secondary education is preferred, candidates with a combination of relevant experience and education may also be considered.
- Possession or willingness to obtain JHSC certification.
Experience
- A minimum of 2 years of experience working in human resources.
- Experience working with BambooHR is considered a valuable asset.
- Prior experience working with Indigenous communities and/or organization is preferred.
Abilities, Knowledge & Skills
- Proficiency in modern productivity tools, social media management tools, content management systems, and analytics platforms.
- Strong understanding of Microsoft Office Suite and common productivity software.
