Indigenous Acknowledgement statement proposed for opening of council meetings starting in October – NorfolkToday.ca

If you tune into Norfolk County council in October, you could see something you haven’t seen before at our local council meeting – an Indigenous Acknowledgement statement.
Council will vote today on the matter, and starting next month, each council meeting would open with the following:
“The Municipality of Norfolk County is committed to furthering Truth and Reconciliation in our communities. We recognize the historical and current contributions of Indigenous Peoples throughout Canada, and particularly in Norfolk County, that have added to the rich cultural and social fabric that exists here today. We will strive to continually strengthen and develop the spirit of respect, cooperation and collaboration to the mutual benefit of all Norfolk County residents.”
