Celebration meshes contemporary and traditional Indigenous music.
The Directions Indigenous Arts Festival takes place in Victoria Park (Willow Park), 32 Dill St., Saturday, from 2 to 8 p.m.
The celebration hosted by Conestoga Students Inc. and Be-Dah-Bin Gamik (Conestoga Indigenous Student Services) meshes contemporary and traditional Indigenous music and art to create a unique hip-hop and electronic experience, mixed with comedy, drag, and community-building activities. The free event will feature information booths, vendors and food trucks.
In preparation for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Sept. 30, Conestoga College is partnering with Survivors’ Secretariat, an Ontario-based organization dedicated to document and share “the truth about what happened at the Mohawk Institute during its 140+ years of operation,” by participating in Orange Shirt Day and raising funds for the work.
