Press Release
[Saugeen First Nation, ON, Oct 2, 2024] – Indigenous Buying Group has launched to help First Nations communities cut costs and stop revenue from leaving their economies. By leveraging group purchasing power, the platform gives communities better access to essential supplies while reducing dependence on outside retailers.
First Nations communities currently spend an average of $1.3 million annually on supplies, with most of that money going to big-box stores. This results in over $1 billion leaking from communities every year, hindering economic growth. Indigenous Buying Group’s goal is to keep more of this money circulating within the community, supporting local jobs, and reinvesting in community priorities.
“Our goal is simple: save money, keep revenue local, and create new income streams,” said Steven Vanloffeld, an Anishinaabe citizen of Saugeen First Nation and Founder and CEO of Indigenous Buying Group. “Beyond cutting costs, our platform also allows communities to generate income by selling products across their networks and participating in government procurement opportunities.”
Platform Highlights:
With the launch of Indigenous Buying Group, the company aims to expand its reach to every First Nation community in Canada and grow its supplier base, focusing on the food, automotive, and building supplies industries.
First Nations can access the Indigenous Buying Group platform free for six months to explore how collective purchasing can reduce costs and promote long-term economic growth.
