Indigenous students get first-hand look at job opportunities – The Peterborough Examiner

Skilled trades fair held for students at Hiawatha First Nation.

Hiawatha First Nation hosted a skilled trades fair for Indigenous students from the local Catholic school board on Thursday.

Hiawatha First Nation, the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board and Ontario Power Generation organized the event.

The purpose was to bring awareness to Indigenous students from grades 7 to 12 about opportunities in the skilled trades.

Students and their families were able to connect with highly skilled journeypersons and tradespeople from many of Ontario’s 140-plus skilled trades, including Indigenous tradespeople and business owners.
