Canadian public sector organizations honoured by IPAC and Deloitte for bold leadership
Toronto, February 14, 2014 — The Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC) and Deloitte celebrated excellence in leadership by recognizing 12 public sector organizations from across Canada at the IPAC/Deloitte Public Sector Leadership Awards during the Gala at the Sheraton Hotel in Toronto. The IPAC/Deloitte Public Sector Leadership Awards program recognizes organizations that have demonstrated outstanding leadership through innovation, strategic thinking, effective collaboration and partnerships.
“The leadership shown by the public sector is something that should be celebrated by all Canadians,” said Charles Perron, Partner and Deloitte’s Canadian Public Sector Industry Leader. “These leaders are grappling with the implications of changing demographics, fiscal constraints, and increasing public scrutiny. Despite these complex challenges, they are transforming the way that governments and citizens interact, resulting in real improvements that benefit us all.
“Public sector organizations often face great scrutiny because they are entrusted by citizens to work on their behalf,” observed Andrew Treusch, Commissioner of the Canada Revenue Agency and IPAC President. “Leadership at all levels is essential to deliver on this public trust. I am proud of this year’s finalists and winners because of their commitment to making a difference.”

Canadian Olympic Committee | National Sport Federation Enhancement Initiative
The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) has developed an assessment tool intended to improve the business operations, leadership and governance of 50 National Sport Federations (NSF). NSFs are responsible for developing athletes, coaches and officials, with the goal of contending for top spot in the medal standings at 2014 Winter Olympics and to place top 8 at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Accessibility@Source is an awareness campaign available to all Ontario Public Service (OPS) staff, intended to promote an accessible culture in the OPS by expanding thinking, changing attitudes and introducing diverse concepts. Saskatchewan Ministry of Health | Putting Patients First: Transforming Healthcare
Like many governments, the Saskatchewan public service faces increasing pressure to work with reduced budgets and staff complements, while at the same time meeting rising expectations from the public. Saskatchewan is the first jurisdiction in Canada to apply a continuous improvement process called LEAN, which is widely employed in the manufacturing sector. LEAN promotes fact-based decisions and identifies and validates root causes of process problems. This leads to improvement gains and long-term cultural changes, not just short-term fixes. LEAN is patient-centric—if a process does not derive from patient need, it must be questioned, discarded or reformed.
