‘It is still happening’: Advocates say death of Indigenous youth must spur change at Halton children’s aid – The Hamilton Spectator

The Halton Children’s Aid Society (CAS) must change the way it treats Indigenous children in the wake of the alleged murder of a 12-year-old boy under its care, say members of a collective of advocates and elders.

“We need to continue to hold these businesses, these entities accountable when they bring … our young people into their care,” said NaWalka Geeshy Meegwun, an organizer with the Circle of Beads who gathered with other Indigenous advocates Wednesday to outline concerns about the Halton child protection agency.
