ITK President reacts to Supreme Court decision on Indigenous child welfare

ITK president Natan Obed joined Métis National Council President Cassidy Caron, Crown Indigenous Relations Minister Gary Anandasangaree and Indigenous Services Minister Patty Hajdu on Parliament Hill February 9, 2024, to speak to reporters about the Supreme Court of Canada’s unanimous decision to uphold C-92, An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, youth and families.

“This landmark decision, grounded in the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, signals an incredible opportunity to transform socio-economic outcomes for Inuit and upholds our right to self-determination, a right that was never surrendered,” Obed said.
