KAIROS: Resources for September 30

Press Release

Sep. 22nd, 2022

September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, or Orange Shirt Day. This day remembers and honors Survivors, families, and communities who continue to be affected by the horrendous legacy of Indian Residential Schools and the related impacts of colonization. The following resources from KAIROS member churches and organizations have been collected to assist you in your journey towards truth, healing, and reconciliation.

If you know of additional member resources which should be added to this list, please email [email protected]

The Anglican Church of Canada produced Every Child Matters: Grace Will Lead Them Home, a video service of reflection and prayer.

The Christian Reformed Church in North America created a book list and Sunday school lesson as part of their Indigenous Justice for Kids initiative.

The Jesuit Forum for Social Faith and Justice shares the resource Listening to Indigenous Voices: A dialogue guide on justice and right relationships, which explores Indigenous worldviews, examines the history of colonization, and concludes with sessions on righting relationships, decolonization, and indigenization.

The Religious Society of Friends developed Truth and Reconciliation: A Guide for Canadian Quakers.

The Presbyterian Church in Canada created an Orange Shirt Day resource including a video reflection and prayer.

The United Church of Canada shares this prayer, written for Orange Shirt Day.

A representative of the Canadian Religious Conference recommends Come Dance with Me by Eva Solomon CSJ. This book explores the interculturation of Anishinaabe Roman Catholic faith through a mutually respectful and culturally appropriate dialogue process.
