On September 30 Kirkland Lakers will have the opportunity to recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation when Keepers of The Circle and Beaverhouse First Nation host their third annual Every Child Matters Powwow at Civic Park.
Sarah Soucie, communications lead with Keepers of the Circle explains what will be happening on that day.
“The Grand Entry starts at 11 am. It will begin with an opening prayer, with the closing ceremonies at 4 p.m.” The event will see traditional dancers, traditional drummers, and many Indigenous traditional craft vendors.
In past years the Powwow has drawn large crowds, many of them from other First Nations communities and Soucie is hopeful the same size of crowd attends this year as well.
“We do expect the same audience. Last year we had all the schools because it happened to run on a Friday (but with this year being that is lands on a Saturday) we are still hoping we have the school attendance as well.”
