Settlement finalized Friday, marking the end of First Nation’s fight for resolution in flood claim
More than 90 years since a hydro dam flooded their reserve lands, Lac Seul First Nation (LSFN) in northwestern Ontario finalized a $234 million settlement claim.
The agreement was ratified in March 2024, but was finalized in a signing ceremony on Kejick Bay Island on Friday. It marks the end of the First Nation’s long fight for a resolution after flooded nearly 20 per cent of Lac Seul’s reserve land was flooded in the late 1920’s.
In May, Chief Clifford Bull explained the impact of the flooding in an interview with CBC News, saying many members moved off reserve after the floods.
