Anything less than double-tracked, electrified light rail not worth doing, says letter writer
If Vancouver Island was in Lake Ontario or the Gulf of St. Lawrence we would already have double-tracked, electrified light rail transit on the E&N corridor.
Our population is projected to be one million by 2030 or sooner. Most of that population is concentrated along the E&N corridor. The corridor already exists. We could use Site C power. It would reduce greenhouse gasses. It would make travel from Courtenay to Victoria and all points in between fast and easy, unlike the existing clogged and dangerous island Highway.
So, c’mon Island residents. Don’t vote for anyone in local, First Nations, provincial or federal elections who is not pledged to make double-tracked, electrified light-rail transit a reality. Anything less is not worth doing.
