Northern Ontario MPP Michael Mantha backs Transmission Infrastructure Partnership-9 to develop Wawa-to-Porcupine line
(Northeastern, Ont.) – Northern Ontario MPP Michael Mantha, representing the riding of Algoma-Manitoulin, is adding his voice in endorsing the Transmission Infrastructure Partnership-9 (TIP-9) that is bidding to build the critical Wawa-to-Porcupine line.
Formed by Taykwa Tagamou, Michipicoten, Chapleau Cree and Missanabie Cree First Nations, the TIP-9 coalition represents several of the First Nations communities that will be affected by the 260-kilometre infrastructure project that will construct a 230-kilovolt transmission line between the Wawa Transformer Station and the Porcupine Transformer Station near Timmins.
In a letter last month to Minister of Energy Todd Smith, Mantha said this partnership would ensure First Nations are equal partners in building and maintaining infrastructure from the beginning of the project.
