Esquimalt Nation does not want any future passenger rail service to bisect its 19.3-hectare reserve, but no alternate route has been proposed.
Greater Victoria mayors have agreed to work with First Nations on a commuter rail route between Victoria and Langford that would not bisect Esquimalt Nation, though no alternate route has been proposed.
The Esquimalt and Songhees nations, as well as the municipalities of Victoria, Esquimalt, Colwood, View Royal, Langford and the Capital Regional District, have signed an agreement to work together on what’s being called the Reconciliation Corridor Initiative — a plan for what to do with the stretch of the Island Rail Corridor inside the capital region.
