Media Advisory: Chiefs of Ontario and Six Nations of the Grand River Host Annual Chiefs Assembly and Ontario Regional Chief Election

(Toronto, ON – June 6, 2024) On June 11-13, 2024, the Chiefs of Ontario and the Six Nations of the Grand River will host the Annual Chiefs Assembly (ACA) and Ontario Regional Chief Election. Located along the banks of the Grand River, Six Nations is the only reserve in North America where all six Haudenosaunee nations live together. The theme of this year’s ACA is “Coming Together: Advocating for First Nations Sovereignty.”

The three-day assembly will centre around the election for the Office of the Ontario Regional Chief, occurring on Day 2 (June 12, 2024) of the ACA. The election this year will be conducted by Gordon “Chop” Waindubence and Gary Dokis. The ACA will also include important updates on a variety of issues and priorities for First Nations in Ontario, including health, rights assertions, First Nations laws and by-laws, Child and Family Services, mining, Duty to Consult, economic development, and more.
