Dr. Michael Wilson, Regional Supervising Coroner for North Region, Thunder Bay Office, announced today that a motion will be heard related to the pending inquest into the deaths of two First Nations men, Don Mamakwa and Roland McKay.
Mr. Mamakwa, 44, died on August 3, 2014, and Mr. McKay, 50, died on the night of July 19, 2017, both while in custody of the Thunder Bay Police Service.
The motion hearing will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2021. Due to the ongoing pandemic, all parties will be making their submissions remotely. Members of the public who wish to view the proceedings can do so live at the YouTube link provided below.
Dr. David Cameron, presiding coroner for the inquest, will preside at the motion hearing. Kate Forget, Peter Keen and Prabhu Rajan are counsel to the coroner.
