Métis Nation of Ontario’s 2024 Family Rendezvous: “Telling Our Stories”

Press Release

September 25, 2024

The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) invites up to six families from each region (1-9) to join the 2024 Family Rendezvous, “Telling Our Stories.” This special event will connect Métis families with children and youth (ages 4-17) to their culture, with a focus on storytelling. The rendezvous takes place at the J.W. Marriott Rosseau in Minett, ON, from November 8-9, 2024. Travel days are November 7 and 10.

Event Overview:

  • November 7: Travel day
  • November 8 Full-day cultural programming (details to follow)
  • November 9: Full-day cultural programming (details to follow)
  • November 10: Closing ceremony and travel home

This event is a collaboration between the MNO’s Education and Training, Healing and Wellness, and Community Well-Being branches. Families will enjoy activities centered on Métis culture and storytelling.

Application Process:
Interested families must apply through an application process including a letter of intent. Priority will be given to those who have not previously attended an MNO Youth or ELCC Family Culture Camp. Selected families will have their accommodation, meals, and travel covered by the MNO. Selected families will be given one (1) hotel room. The MNO team will ensure that there are sufficient sleeping arrangements for each family.

Please note that this application intends to obtain adequate information for the event, which includes dietary and hotel needs, travel needs, and the family selection process.

To ensure that all participants have an enjoyable experience at the rendezvous, we ask that parents and guardians identify any additional accommodations their child/youth may require in their application. Supporting information, such as an Individual Education Plan or a summary of your child’s developmental profile and the supports needed, will allow the rendezvous planning staff to develop accessible programming that ensures all participants can engage in programming. This information will not be shared with the selection committee and will only be used after the family is approved to attend the rendezvous to develop responsive programming.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • One parent/guardian, grandparent(s), or child must be a Métis Nation of Ontario citizen eligible for direct benefits. Grandparents applying to attend the rendezvous with their grandchild(ren) must have written consent from the parent/guardian of the child(ren) attending.
  • Have at least one (1) MNO citizen child, youth, or grandchild between the ages of four (4) and seventeen (17).
    • Families with siblings younger than the age limit are encouraged to apply. However, there will be no formal child care provided, and it is expected the child is supervised by a parent/guardian/grandparent at all times during the rendezvous.
  • Interested in learning about Métis culture and willing to participate in indoor/outdoor programming.

Space for this event is limited, as noted above. Applications will be accepted from September 13 until October 4. Preference will be given to families who have not attended an MNO Youth Culture Camp or ELCC Family Culture Camp in the past.
