MN–S Remembers a Son of Our Nation and Long Time Patuanak, SK. Local President, Percy Kenny

With great sadness, Métis Nation–Saskatchewan announces the passing of Percy Kenny, a close friend and son of the Nation and dedicated Local President of Patuanak, SK. Percy passed away at 8:35 p.m. in Saskatoon on September 19, 2024, with his wife and children at his side. Percy was born in Île-à-la-Crosse, SK and spent much of his life in Patuanak, SK.

Percy Kenny was a steadfast and passionate advocate for his community, dedicating over 20 years as Local President of Patuanak. His unwavering commitment to advancing Métis rights made him a strong and respected voice within our Nation. Beyond his leadership role, Percy also volunteered as a Canadian Ranger, offering his skills and time to assist with emergency rescue services, always stepping up when his community needed him most. His dedication to Métis people and his community was profound, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him.

We extend our deepest sympathies to Shirley Kenny, Percy’s devoted wife. Percy is survived by his children: Vicki Yew, Morgan Kenny, Hillary Kenny, and Shenine Kenny-Black, as well as his grandchildren: Kairi Yew, Caydence Yew, Alexander Yew, Emma Wolverine, Kayson Kenny, Parker Eldridge, and Sophia Kenny-Black. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this incredibly difficult time.

Percy’s dedication to Métis Nation–Saskatchewan spanned over 20 years, and his passion for the rights of his people leaves a lasting legacy. Métis Nation–Saskatchewan mourns the loss of a close friend, and we will forever remember the profound impact Percy had on our nation.

Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of Percy on Tuesday, September 24 at 2 p.m. at St. Louis Parish in Patuanak, SK.
