NATIONAL INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY: Celebrating the spirit and strength of Labrador Inuit

“As we celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21, we honour the spirit and contributions of our Elders and those who have gone before us. Their wisdom and guidance continue to inspire us, as Labrador Inuit, to understand our past and walk confidently toward the future.

“For thousands of years, Labrador Inuit have thrived with deep connections to the land, the sea, the animals, and to one another. These relationships have shaped our identity and strengthened our sense of community – making us vibrant, resourceful, determined, and proud.

“We believe in the wisdom of our Elders and the creativity of our youth. We cherish our unique culture, language, and traditions, and we find strength in sharing our stories with each other and with the world.

“National Indigenous Peoples Day is a time to celebrate who we are, where we come from, and where we are headed. It is a time to reflect on the strength and beauty of our culture, and to proudly embrace our heritage.

I am proud to be a Labrador Inuk, proud of all we have achieved as a people and as a government, and excited for all that lies ahead.”
