New Certificate of Compliance form for municipal business licence applications

Press Release

September 26, 2024

The Department of Community and Government Services is advising municipal businesses that recent legislative changes now require all businesses applying for a municipal business licence in Nunavut to submit the new Certificate of Compliance form with their application every year.

Effective October 1, 2024, businesses are required to self-certify that they are in compliance with the Workers’ Compensation Act in order to receive a municipal business licence. Submitting this form is a requirement under the Cities, Towns and Villages Act and the Hamlets Act.

This change was made to improve the application process for both applicants and the Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission.

For assistance with the new form, please contact Community Development at cgs.cd.hq@gov.nu.ca. For further information about compliance with the Workers’ Compensation Act, please contact the Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission at info@wscc.nt.ca, or by phone at 1-877-404-4407.
