B.C. Wildfire Service says ‘significant rains’ needed to reduce drought conditions, reduce fire behaviour

The Regional District of Nanaimo has issued a new evacuation alert for properties near the Wesley Ridge wildfire on Vancouver Island.

The latest alert adds 15 properties to an existing alert covering 235 properties, according to Douglas Holmes, chief administrative officer for the Regional District of Nanaimo. The alert means residents are expected to be ready to leave at a moment’s notice.

There are still 387 properties affected by an evacuation order, which requires residents to leave immediately, Holmes said.
