Nunavut celebrates Mining Week

Press Release

September 16, 2024

Nunavut Mining Week is here! Mining is the largest private-sector employer in Nunavut and provides over 40 per cent of the territory’s gross domestic product (GDP). There are currently three active mines in our territory, with a new gold mine in the Kitikmeot expected to start in 2025.

From September 16 to 27, 2024, the Government of Nunavut (GN) is hosting virtual activities at Nunavut schools. There will also be in-person events in Iqaluit, Rankin Inlet and Cambridge Bay, with great prizes to be won.

The activities are for all ages. Grand prizes for competitions include Apple iPads and AirPods.
