Nunavut Tunngavik Announces $5 Million for the Construction of Nunavut Inuit Heritage Centre

Press Release

(October 20, 2025 – Rankin Inlet, Nunavut) Today, Nunavut Tunngavik President Jeremy Tunraluk was pleased to announce $5 million dollars in funding will be released to the Inuit Heritage Trust for the construction of the Nunavut Inuit Heritage Centre.

“Investing in a world-class Inuit heritage Centre in Nunavut is an investment in Inuit identity, knowledge transfer and pride,” said NTI President Tunraluk. “Nunavut Inuit continue the skill and strength of our ancestors everyday. This centre will be a place of learning, where Inuit belongings are brought home, and where Inuit have direct access to their history, culture and ancestorial knowledge for generations to come.”

The $5 million will come from the final installment of the 2015 Settlement Agreement fund with the Government of Canada.

The NTI Members passed a resolution in October 2017 pledging the funding to support the establishment of the Nunavut Inuit Heritage Centre. This year, the Inuit Heritage Trust requested the allocation of the pledged funding, as the construction of the Nunavut Inuit Heritage Centre is expected to begin in 2027, with an estimated opening date of 2030.
