Opinion: Jasper, your community is our community – The Graphic Leader

Jasper residents have started returning to their community following the fire that devastated the townsite and much of the national park.

We continue to grieve the terrible losses with all Jasperites, whose lives have been turned upside down emotionally, socially, and economically. We mourn, too, the devastating loss of Morgan Kitchen, the 24-year-old Alberta firefighter who succumbed to injuries received while battling the fire. Let us honour Morgan’s memory, always, and reflect upon the heroic work of all those who work each day to keep the rest of us safe, as he did.

Our focus now also turns to understanding what happened, and to the collective task of supporting the recovery of residents, service providers, businesses, and tourism operators.
